Measures have been taken to tighten security across the city of Rawalpindi, Pakistan, for the upcoming T20 cricket series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The Pakistani federal government and the Punjab provincial government have deployed the army and special forces to ensure the safety of the visiting Sri Lankan team and the matches themselves.
The Sri Lankan team has already arrived in Rawalpindi for this three-match T20 series, with all games scheduled to take place at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on October 9, 11, and 13.
Authorities have taken steps to bolster security around the stadium and other key locations in Rawalpindi as the city prepares for the international cricket series. In addition to the police and other law enforcement agencies, the army and special forces have been integrated into the security operations. This security plan covers the touring Sri Lankan team’s travel and accommodation, as well as security around the stadium during matches.
Five additional players from the Sri Lankan squad are scheduled to join the team today, completing the full squad.
Eight Sri Lankan players and five officials arrived in Rawalpindi on Sunday night, while another five players arrived on Monday morning. The Pakistan T20 squad is also set to assemble in Rawalpindi today and plans to begin training for the series. Both teams will hold training sessions at 5:00 PM, with media access to certain sessions restricted to capturing video and photographs only.
The first T20 match between the two countries is scheduled for October 9, and a player or support staff member from each team is expected to attend the post-match press conference. The second match is scheduled to be held on October 11, and the third and final T20 match on October 13.
