Cabinet approval has been granted to publish the new bill drafted for the restructuring of Sri Lanka Cricket in the Government Gazette and subsequently submit it to Parliament for approval.
Initial approval to draft a new bill aimed at restructuring Sri Lanka Cricket had been granted during the Cabinet meeting held on June 8, 2026.
Accordingly, the Legal Draftsman has prepared this bill to incorporate a new ‘Sri Lanka Cricket’ institution, designed to ensure the governance, regulation, promotion, development, and administration of cricket in Sri Lanka are conducted in a more systematic manner.
The primary objective of this Act is to work towards the advancement of cricket, guided by principles such as good governance, integrity, transparency, accountability, inclusivity, and the provision of equal opportunities. Furthermore, this measure legally establishes the necessary powers and functions to safeguard the well-being of all participants and to rid the sport of cricket of corruption and other forms of misconduct.
The relevant Bill has already received clearance from the Attorney General.
Accordingly, the Cabinet has approved the proposal submitted by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports to publish the Bill in the Government Gazette and subsequently present it to Parliament for enactment.
