The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially announced the 12 host cities for the 2027 Men’s One-Day Cricket World Cup, with a focus on the African region.
The tournament, scheduled to be held from 4 October to 21 November 2027, will feature a total of 57 matches.
The tournament will be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, and will be the first Men’s One-Day Cricket World Cup to be hosted by the African region in 24 years.
The tournament will be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, with the highest number of matches, including the final.
Johannesburg, Centurion, Durban, Gqeberha, Kugompo City, Cape Town, Pall and Bloemfontein have been selected for this.
The final match of the tournament is scheduled to be held at one of two stadiums: ‘Wonders’ in Johannesburg or ‘Newlands’ in Cape Town.
A total of 7 to 10 matches are planned to be held in Zimbabwe.
Accordingly, in addition to the cities of Harare and Bulawayo, matches will also be held at the newly built stadium near the famous Victoria Falls.
At least 3 World Cup matches are planned to be held in the capital of Namibia, Windhoek.
South Africa last hosted a men’s ODI World Cup in 2003. That time, they jointly organized it with Zimbabwe and Kenya.
However, South Africa has since hosted major cricket tournaments, including the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup in 2007, the 2023 Women’s Twenty20 World Cup, and the 2023 Women’s Under-19 ODI World Cup.
