Former England Test captain Mike Smith has died, his county team Warwickshire announced on Monday.

He was 92 at the time of his death.

Known by his initials MJK, he was known for his glasses.

He played 50 Tests for England, captaining them on 25 occasions, and was also a rugby union international, winning one against Wales in 1956.

Smith made his Test debut against New Zealand in 1958 and played his final Test against Australia in 1972.

In total, he scored almost 40,000 first-class runs, with 72 centuries, three of them in Test cricket.

Smith served as Warwickshire chairman between 1991 and 2003.

During that time, the club won numerous trophies, with his son Neil Smith being an integral member of the team.

Warwickshire announced his death with a moment of silence before the start of their County Championship match against Glamorgan on Monday.

“Warwickshire County Cricket Club is saddened by the passing of Bears legend M.J.K. Smith at the age of 92,” the club said in a social media post.
