A special welcome and departure ceremony organized by the Embassy of Japan for the Sri Lanka National Team participating in the 20th Asian Games 2026 to be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan was held yesterday (September 03) at the Japanese Embassy premises in Colombo.

The Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sunil Kumara Gamage, attended the event as the Chief Guest at the official invitation of the Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka, Akio ISOMATA, and the Chairman of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka, Asanga Chandana Seneviratne, also participated.

Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, from September 19 to October 04, 2026 The theme of this year’s Asian Games, which will be held in Tokyo, Shizuoka, Gifu and Osaka, is “Imagine One Asia”.

Speaking at the event, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Sunil Kumara Gamage said that this Games will be instrumental in further strengthening the long-standing diplomatic and cultural relations between Sri Lanka and Japan.

The Minister further said that our athletes representing the motherland under the national flag will receive the full blessings and support of the Ministry to bring glory to the motherland by displaying the highest skills. Senior officials of the Japanese Embassy, ​​officials of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and many athletes from the Sri Lankan team participating in the Asian Games were present on the occasion.
