Jithma Wijetunga won a bronze medal for Sri Lanka in the 400m at the Asian U23 Athletics Championships.
The most valuable thing about this race is that Jithma won the medal by recording her personal best. She finished the event in 53.10 seconds, giving her best performance even under the intense pressure of an international final.
While athletes often fall behind in big tournaments due to pressure, Jithma did what she did by breaking her fastest time ever.
Winning a bronze medal at the U23 level with such timing shows that she is in a position to bring big medal hopes to Sri Lanka in the senior level competitions in the future. The speed and maturity she showed in the last 100 meters was truly outstanding.
