The Lanka Premier League (LPL) has announced a change in ownership of the Jaffna Kings team for the 6th season.
Accordingly, the team will be currently owned by Sports Commune, a group led by Indian sports entrepreneurs Manjot Kalra and Mayank Goel.
The new owners say they want to strengthen the team not only as a strong cricket franchise but also as a comprehensive sports platform that connects players, fans, young athletes and business partners across South Asia.
Their goal is to grow the franchise in a modern way by combining cricketing experience, business skills, youth development and digital media.
A former professional cricketer, Manjot Kalra is now a sports entrepreneur and digital content creator.
He hosts a podcast called ‘Second Innings’ with Manjot Kalra, where he talks to athletes and shares sports stories.
He focuses on youth participation and athlete development.
Mayank Goel is an entrepreneur who works in the digital security and insurance sectors along with sports development.
He runs cybersecurity and insurance services companies, and also supports youth cricket tournaments and corporate leagues.
The Lanka Premier League (LPL) management has accepted the new ownership.
The LPL management has stated that the move will strengthen the league and help build a more competitive and commercially viable tournament.
Officials believe that Sports Commune’s experience in sports and digital activities will help grow the Jaffna Kings brand.
The team will continue to operate within the official LPL structure and further details on team leadership, player selection and fan engagement will be announced before the season begins.
The new owners said their aim is to build a disciplined, modern and connected team that reflects the spirit of Jaffna Kings.
At the same time, opportunities will be created for young talent.
The new owners also stressed their long-term commitment to growing franchise cricket in the region and strengthening the team on and off the field.
