Sri Lanka Cricket Starts Distribution of Cricket Balls to 900 Schools Playing U13 Cricket

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association
(SLSCA), commenced the distribution of cricket balls to nearly 900 schools participating in
the 2026 Under-13 School Cricket Tournament.
The inaugural distribution program took place recently at the Duncan White Auditorium of the
Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, where cricket balls were distributed to 81 schools
participating in Division I and 84 schools participating in Division II of the tournament.
The programme was attended by nearly 300 participants, including principals, school
representatives, coaches, teachers in charge of sports and other officials representing schools
participating in the Under-13 Division I and Division II tournaments. During the programme,
participants were also briefed on the playing conditions, as well as the new rules and regulations
applicable to the 2026 Under-13 School Cricket Tournament.
The briefing was aimed at ensuring uniformity in the organization and conduct of school cricket
matches, while providing participating schools across the island with essential information on
the tournament’s playing conditions, laws and regulations.
Nearly 900 schools have registered to participate in the upcoming Under-13 School Cricket
Tournament across Divisions I, II and III. As part of the initiative, all participating schools will
be provided with the required cricket balls and briefed on the new playing conditions, laws and
regulations governing the tournament.

Distribution of Travelling Grants

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Cricket also provided travelling grants of Rs. 250,000 each to 13 girls’
schools participating in the Under-19 Girls’ Division I Tournament. The financial assistance
was provided as an encouragement to further support and promote girls’ school cricket.
The programme was attended by Mr. Sidath Wettimuny, Chairman of the Cricket Committee
of Sri Lanka Cricket; Mr. Prabath Indika, Deputy Director of Education, Ministry of Education;
Mr. Chinthaka Edirimanne, Head of National Cricket Operations, Sri Lanka Cricket; Mr.
Susantha Mendis, President of the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association; Mr. Ruwan Kalpage,
Senior Manager, Sri Lanka Cricket High Performance Centre; Mr. Heshan de Mel, Head of
Coach Education Unit of Sri Lanka Cricket; and other officials from Sri Lanka Cricket and the
Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association.
