Indian player Abhishek Sharma broke the record for the fastest T20I century scored by a batsman from an ICC Full Member nation.
Indian opening batsman Abhishek completed his century in 30 balls during the third T20I match against Afghanistan held in Delhi.
In doing so, he surpassed by three balls the record previously jointly held by Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza (against Gambia in 2024) and New Zealand’s Finn Allen (against South Africa in the 2026 T20 World Cup).
Abhishek’s feat also eclipsed the Indian record held by Rohit Sharma, who scored a century off 35 balls against Sri Lanka in 2017.
However, the record for the fastest century in the history of T20I cricket overall is still held by Sahil Chauhan, who scored a century off 27 balls for Estonia against Cyprus in 2024. This was Abhishek’s third T20I century; among Indian batters, only Rohit (5) and Suryakumar Yadav (4) have recorded more centuries than him.
Abhishek took 16 balls to reach his maiden half-century, and after hitting that milestone, he raced to his century in just another 14 balls, offering no respite to the Afghan bowlers.
He was eventually dismissed in the tenth over of the Indian innings, having scored 108 runs off 34 balls—an innings that included 9 fours and 11 sixes.
At the time of his dismissal, India’s score stood at 142 for one, with Abhishek having contributed over 76% of the team’s total runs.
His opening partner, Sanju Samson, had contributed 34 runs off 25 balls to their first-wicket partnership.
Prior to this match, Abhishek had risen to second place in the ICC T20I batting rankings, trailing only his teammate Ishan Kishan.
