Sangakkara cuts off Dasun Shanaka – tells him to quit if he cannot fulfill the responsibility of captaincy
The Sri Lankan team had to suffer a sharp 12-run defeat in the third T20I against England.
After the match, captain Dasun Shanaka went back to the players’ lounge after discussing the match’s aftermath with Roshan Abeysinghe, when Dasun Shanaka received a phone call from former Sri Lankan cricketer Kumar Sangakkara.
Kumar Sangakkara had received about 04 phone calls and since Shanaka was on the field at the time, he was unable to receive them.
However, Sangakkara reacted impulsively to Dasun Shanaka, who finally answered Sangakkara’s phone call.
Sangakkara has told Shanaka very passionately that Sangakkara watched the match from England and that Dasun has played the entire tournament without properly understanding his captaincy responsibilities.
Sangakkara has further said that he is truly sorry for displaying such a school-level style of play with the World Cup in hand. It is said that Kumar Sangakkara has also told Dasun Shanaka to discuss with the Cricket Selection Committee if he is unable to fulfill his captaincy responsibilities properly and step down from his responsibilities before the World Cup and hand over the leadership to a suitable player in the team.
