Pakistan’s participation in the 2026 Twenty20 World Cup is also uncertain at this time.
The country’s cricket board chairman Mohsin Naqvi said that a final decision will be taken after discussing it with the Pakistani government.
Naqvi made this statement shortly after the International Cricket Council officially announced that Bangladesh’s team was removed from this year’s Twenty20 World Cup due to its unwillingness to play in India and replaced by Scotland.
He pointed out that the ICC is engaging in a double-dealing program in favor of India. The Pakistan Cricket Chairman has also said that what was done to Bangladesh is unfair. “Our position on the participation in the World Cup will be decided according to the instructions given to me by the Pakistani government,” he said.
“The Prime Minister is not in Pakistan now. When he comes back, I will be able to give our final decision. It is the government’s decision. We will obey them and not the ICC.”
You cannot have a double standard. You cannot say that one country [India] can do whatever it wants and other countries should do the opposite. That is why we have taken this stand. It is clear that injustice has been done to Bangladesh. They should play in the World Cup, they are a major player in the game of cricket.”
“If the Pakistani government says we should not play, maybe the ICC will bring in a 22nd team (after Scotland). That is the government’s decision.”
All the matches Pakistan will play in this World Cup are scheduled to be played in Sri Lanka.
