With India needing to win seven of their next nine Tests to qualify for the World Test Championship final, Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has made his views on the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka, which is set to begin in Galle.
Gavaskar, who is currently in Singapore for a felicitation ceremony for the 1983 World Cup-winning team, says that the two-match series will not be easy for India as the Sri Lankan team is a very challenging and strong team to face on their home soil.
He also stressed that it is time to immediately stop the “superstar culture” prevailing in Indian cricket and think as a whole team.
India head coach Gautam Gambhir had earlier said that the entire team should be treated equally and not singled out for one or two players.
Gavaskar, who believes that India has the potential to beat Sri Lanka 2-0 in the series, has further said that the players should prioritize playing for the Indian team over personal fame.
