Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage says that construction work on the Jaffna International Cricket Stadium will resume as soon as the changes in the cricket administration and the administrative issues that arose are resolved.
Speaking at a public event, the Minister stated that work on the stadium has been temporarily suspended due to administrative changes.
The foundation stone of this project, which also includes an indoor stadium, was laid last January with the aim of completing it by September, and relevant provisions had also been allocated for it.
The construction work of the stadium was stalled due to a case filed in court by groups with political objectives in mind.
“The real loss from this act was to the people of Jaffna and the children who love sports. I request that the sporting dreams and future of the children of Jaffna not be destroyed for political purposes,” the Minister further stated.
The Minister also emphasized that the government hopes to quickly complete this project for the future of the emerging players in the Jaffna region by resolving legal and administrative obstacles.
