A Strategic Blend of Youth and Experience:Sahan Arachchige
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced the 15-member men’s squad destined for the upcoming 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Sahan Arachchige has been entrusted with the captaincy, leading a team that perfectly balances seasoned internationals with exciting emerging talent. The squad is scheduled to depart for Japan on September 24th, with the T20I tournament running from September 24 to October 3 at the Kōrogi Sports Park in Nisshin.
Niroshan Dickwella’s Long-Awaited Return
One of the most notable inclusions in the squad is veteran wicketkeeper-batter Niroshan Dickwella, who marks his return to the national T20I setup for the first time since June 2021. His aggressive batting at the top of the order and sharp glovework will be heavily relied upon as Sri Lanka targets a podium finish.
He joins other experienced campaigners like all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne and fast bowlers Nuwan Thushara and Binura Fernando, the latter returning after missing the recent England series due to injury.
Emerging Stars Look to Make an Impact
The squad also features four uncapped players ready to make their mark on the international stage: Sineth Jayawardena, Sohan de Livera, Wanuja Sahan, and Garuka Sanketh. They will be supported by a potent spin attack featuring the likes of Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, Dushan Hemantha, and Tharindu Ratnayake.
Sri Lanka will be eager to bounce back and secure a medal in Japan, looking to replicate their 2014 success when they won Asian Games Gold in Incheon.
