Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis achieved a significant milestone during the first ODI against England.
He reached the 5,000-run mark in One Day Internationals.
With this feat, Mendis became the 11th player to reach this milestone for Sri Lanka.
He also became the second-fastest Sri Lankan player to achieve this record, reaching the milestone in 153 innings.
Previously, in 2002, Sri Lankan opening batsman Marvan Atapattu became the fastest Sri Lankan to reach this mark, doing so in 152 innings.
However, among current Sri Lankan batsmen active on the international stage, Kusal Mendis holds the record for the highest number of runs scored.
