Sri Lanka Cricket appoints Iran Wickramaratne as chairman of new interim committee of management, Mahanama-Sangakkara-Wettamuni as committee members

Former Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Iran Wickramaratne has been appointed as the chairman of the new interim committee of the Sri Lanka Cricket.

Roshan Mahanama, Kumar Sangakkara, Thusira Radella, Sidath Wettamuni, Avanthi Colombage, Prakash Shafter, Upul Kumarapperuma and Dinal Phillips are the remaining members of the nine-member committee.

The appointment was made after Sri Lanka Cricket chairman Shammi Silva and the executive committee members submitted their resignations to the Sports Minister today.

Issuing an official statement at that time, Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage stated that Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage has accepted their resignations.

The Ministry further stated that under the powers vested in the Minister by Sections 31 and 34 of the Sports Act No. 25 of 1973, the administration of Sri Lanka Cricket will be temporarily placed under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports with immediate effect.

The statement further states that a committee will be appointed soon to identify solutions to the current problems in cricket and implement structural reforms within the governing body.
