Scotland added a historic win to their women’s cricket history today by defeating Ireland by 40 runs. Batting first, Scotland posted a competitive 161 for 5, led by the Bryce sisters’ 106-run stand for the third wicket.
At the end of the Power Play, Scotland were reduced to 37 for 2 and were in a strong position to reach 161.
Scotland captain Catherine Bryce led the way with a 39-ball 60.
The target set for Ireland was 162 runs, and Scotland’s bowling did not make it any easier. Ireland’s innings was restricted to 121 runs with 5 balls to spare.
While Christy Gordon and Catherine Fraser took three wickets, captain Catherine Bryce took two wickets.
After trying and failing in 8 World Cups since 2009, Scotland qualified for the Women’s T20 World Cup for the first time in 2024. After finishing 2024 without winning a single match, they qualified for the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup for the second time in a row.
