Pakistani all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz has been banned from cricket for three months for violating the International Cricket Council’s anti-doping rules.
However, the ban is set to be reduced to one month after he successfully completes a special treatment program to get rid of the banned substance.
The 32-year-old Nawaz tested positive for a banned substance (Carboxy-THC) in a test conducted after the match against the Netherlands in the 2026 ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup held in Colombo on February 7.
Nawaz admitted his wrongdoing and was able to prove that the substance in question was used outside of sporting events and that it had no effect on his performance.
Accordingly, the three-month ban has been imposed with effect from 1 May 2026, the date on which his voluntary provisional ban came into effect.
Nawaz has now been suspended after completing a two-and-a-half-month ban, having accepted the punishment and agreed to participate in a rehabilitation programme.
If Nawaz successfully completes this rehabilitation programme, which is being fully supervised by the International Cricket Council (ICC), he will not be required to serve the remainder of the three-month ban.
However, in accordance with the ICC Anti-Doping Rules, steps have been taken to cancel all personal records set in the match against the Netherlands on February 7 and in the matches he played in until May 1.
