
The opening of the eight-lane swimming pool, which was a vital requirement for the R. Premadasa Stadium High Performance Center, was attended by Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage and Deputy Sports Minister Sugath Thilakaratne today (22).
In a unique sports culture in this country, there is a great love and affection for cricket from young children to adults, and the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports stated that efforts will be made to develop all sports, including cricket, in order to preserve such a sports culture that has been built.
The Minister further stated that heroes have been created in any sport since history, and that the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports will take steps to provide all the necessary technology and other facilities for sports and players to create such heroes in the future.
Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Sunil Kumara Gamage said that such constructions carried out by the Cricket Board will contribute to the development of cricket in the future, and he appreciates it.
The Minister also expressed his views regarding the Jaffna International Cricket Stadium to be built in the near future, and recalled the intervention of the Indian Prime Minister, the Indian High Commissioner and former cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya in this regard.
