The Mercantile Cricket Association (MCA) beat the Colombo Masters Cricket Association (CMCA) by five wickets at the Ceylon Veterans Cricket (CVC) 50-plus League Tournament, organised and lead by the CVC at the Bloomfield Grounds earlier this week.

MCA, captained by Sanjaya Attanayake, winning the toss, invited CMCA, captained by Shafeek Rahim, to bat first. 

A splendid knock by Pujitha Uduwana, scoring 47 runs including four fours and two sixes, and a chivalrous knock by skipper Rahim, scoring 42 runs including five fours and contributions with double figures from Suwanji Madanayake (18) and Riyad M. Fowzie, took the Colombo Masters to a comfortable position. 

Wendell Labrooy and Krishan Dharmasena, capturing three wickets each, and Punyakantha Abeygunasekara, capturing two wickets, took the main honours in the bowling department. 

In reply, MCA’s Varuna Waragoda, scoring a solid 54 runs and well supported by Thusitha Karunaratne (13), skipper Attanayake (13), Wendell Labrooy (20), and a star-studded innings by Duminda Somaweera scoring 33 runs including two fours and three sixes, saw MCA winning the game by five wickets. Fowzie was the pick of the bowlers, capturing two wickets.
