West Indies coach Darren Sammy decided to bring the former finisher to the top order and establish him as a number three batsman with the World Cup in sight.
Hetmyer, who came to the field after a while as a number three batsman, scored 75 runs in the first innings against South Africa. In the next match, however, South Africa scored 48 runs without losing and West Indies won.
Scotland came to the World Cup and scored 64 runs. Nepal scored 46 runs without losing.
Hetmyer, who scored the fastest half-century by a West Indies batsman in World Cup history against Zimbabwe in the first match of the Super Eights today, scored his half-century in 19 balls and scored a quick 85 runs in 34 balls.
He joined Powell to build a huge partnership of 122 runs in 52 balls and stayed at the wicket for 15 overs, giving the West Indies the life they needed to build a scoreboard of 250+ runs..!
The West Indies are enjoying the results of that decision made by Darren Sammy that day
