The teenage player Vaibhav Sooryavanshi who gained the Player of the Final award at the A team Tri Nation series stated; “I hadn’t thought of anything and I just wanted to execute what I planned in the first ten overs and take it forward from there”.
The 15-year-old left hand opener Sooryavanshi hit 11 ball 50 which is the fastest 50 in list A cricket and he broke a 21 years old previous record of 12-ball fifty by Sri Lankan Kaushalya Weerarathne in the domestic match between Ragama CC and Kurunegala YCC in 2005.
Sooryavanshi hit 94 in 29 balls with 10 fours and 8 sixes with only three singles. He allied in a 132-run opening wicket stand with Priyansh Arya (39) in just 8.5 overs which enabled them to reach 377 runs total.
The young Sooryavanshi who played his normal game further said; “I have no pressure. I wasn’t executing what I wanted. But after consulting the coaches, I got it right. Learnt a lot in this Tri Nation series which is my debut India A team series”.
Sooryavanshi also said; “I’ve played a lot of 50-over cricket. Not sure people know about it. The challenge was to adapt to different conditions, it was nice to take it on,” added Sooryavanshi the IPL star batter who is already named for National side for the England and Ireland T – 20 series. If he plays, Sooryavanshi would break Sachin Tendulkar’ s record as the youngest player to play for India.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was named Player of the Tournament at 2026 under 19 World Cup scoring magnificent knock of 175 in the final while he ended his best IPL season (his second IPL) having scored 776 runs and also broke Chris Gayle’s record of most sixes finishing 72 sixes. Rajasthan Royals head coach Kumar Sangakkra was highly impressed with this young batter.
In the meantime, champions India, A skipper Tilak Varma said everyone showed real character in this series. Especially after we lost back-to-back games and then we won with big margins which was tremendous. Everyone has played domestic cricket and has experience. Just a matter of planning before the game. We start big, consolidate and accelerate. Slightly disappointed with the bowling but it happens in one-off series. We have a good side added Varma. Sri Lanka A skipper Sahan Arachchige highly praised about Sooryavanshi’s performance. “Sooryavanshi played a brilliant innings. We managed the innings nicely thereon but let it slide in the last two overs. When we are chasing a big score, top order can fall cheaply. It happens. However young guys have played well, seniors have scored too. It’s been a good tournament and leant a lot from this Tri Nation series,” added Sahan Arachchige.
