Hassan Miraz has been appointed as the new captain of the Bangladesh ODI team. The appointment has been made for the next 12 months. Accordingly, he is scheduled to lead the Bangladesh ODI team from the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka next month.
With this appointment, it is noteworthy that the Bangladesh team will be led by three captains in all three formats. Najmul Hossain Shanto was the previous ODI captain, and he will continue to lead the Test team. Liton Das is the captain of the T20 team.
Hasan led Bangladesh in four matches last year when Shanto was injured. Although those matches were against Afghanistan and the West Indies, Bangladesh lost all four matches.
Former captain Shanto has led Bangladesh in 13 ODIs since 2023, winning only four of them. Last year, Bangladesh won the ODI series by defeating Sri Lanka. However, they lost to New Zealand and Afghanistan.
Bangladesh has appointed a new ODI captain with a short time left until the 2027 ODI World Cup. Bangladesh are currently 10th in the ODI rankings and need to finish in the top eight to qualify directly for the World Cup.
