Reflecting on the record-breaking match—despite the defeat—England captain Harry Brook remarked: “This was a fantastic cricket match. Both teams played very well. However, the Sri Lankan side played significantly better than us and secured the win. Our bowling was not effective. Successfully chasing down 400 runs is a truly remarkable achievement; they deserve full credit for that.”
Regarding his own double-century innings, he added: “It’s good that I managed to score runs, but since we lost, it counts for nothing. From my perspective, that innings holds no value.” Regarding the path ahead in this tournament, he expressed the following: “We need to plan from scratch. We know where we went wrong; the issue was that we couldn’t get our bowling right. We still have a good opportunity in the upcoming matches to reach the final. We need to keep things simple and approach the next match with self-belief.”
