With the objective of further strengthening the financial strength required for the development of cricket at Mathugama Ananda Sastralaya National School, the player auction for the 10th edition of the “Sastralian Premier League – SPL” T10 cricket tournament, organized by the school administration and the alumni, will be held on October 18 at 4:00 PM at Yathodara Himakara Hotel.
A special feature of this tournament, organized by the Old Sastralins Cricket Association, is that all 8 participating squads have already been purchased by commercial sponsors. A total of 143 players have registered to participate in the tournament, and the opportunity to select players for the squads will arise during this grand auction.
Each squad can select up to 16 players, and the team captain is not included in the auction. Cricket players who are currently engaging in cricket or have engaged in it previously in schools within the Mathugama area are given the opportunity to represent the team through the “Guest Players” category. Accordingly, up to six players representing other schools can be selected for a squad, out of whom four players must mandatorily play in the matches.
Furthermore, it is mandatory to include two players currently engaging in cricket at Mathugama Ananda Sastralaya National School in the squad composition. However, it is sufficient for only one player out of these two to play in a single match. Through this, it is expected to provide an opportunity for the current school players to gain experience by playing alongside experienced players.
When selecting the remaining players, squad owners are given the opportunity to include 5 players over the age of 20 and 3 players over the age of 40. All players of the school are presented to the auction under the “School Players” category.
The tournament is held under the T10 (10-over) match format, with a total number of 16 matches. Matches are planned to be held on November 7, 8, and 15, and if rain causes any disruption to holding the matches, November 16 has been designated as a reserve day.
Another special feature of the tournament is that squads have been given the opportunity to utilize an “Impact Player”.
For this year’s tournament, Group “A” includes JSD Challenges, Jagath Express, Liveka Power Lions, and Rexhill Warriors, while Group “B” includes JPI Royals, Five Star Heroes, Marine Titans, and Finnk Falcons.
