Turning a long-held dream of Sri Lankan cricket fans living in Naples, Italy into a reality, the official opening of the “Napoli Knights Cricket Club” (Napoli Knights CC) Sports Club and the handing over of the new practice wicket to the players was held in a grand manner on 07th December 2025.
Located at Via Lattanzio 46, 80126, Napoli, Naples, this new sports club is a valuable haven for Sri Lankans in Italy to engage in the game of cricket.
The beginning with religious blessings, emphasizing that blessings are essential for any auspicious event, began with the blessings of the Venerable Maha Sangha and the Venerable Father. The organizing committee aimed to start this journey with pure thoughts by giving priority to religion before sports.
The chief guest for this special occasion was Mr. Manoj Rodrigo, the head coach of the Royal Padova Sports Club in Italy, who broke a 4-decade-old record in the history of Italian cricket and took the name of Sri Lanka to the international level.
In appreciation of his service to the club, two special plaques were presented to Mr. Manoj Rodrigo by Mr. Sudheera Chamith, Chairman of Napoli Knights CC, and to Signor Guido De Novelli by Mrs. Ayesha.
Mr. Senaka Adikari, a respected and respected teacher among the Sri Lankan community in Naples, also joined the event. The valuable advice and guidance he gave on how to stand up in society, not just as players, but as good people, was a great help in the team’s future journey.
The inauguration of the new practice wicket and the inauguration of the new practice wicket built with the aim of developing the talents of the players and creating future cricket stars were also marked at this very venue. The team’s head coach, Mr. M.K. Subhash, officially started the training activities by batting the first ball.
Here, the bowling action of the female cricket team player Dilini was praised by everyone, which was an auspicious sign for the future of the sports club.
The current President: Mr. Sudheera Chamith, Vice President: Mr. Viraj Prasanna, Secretary: Mr. Aruna Shantha Vidana Pathiranage, Head Coach: Mr. M.K. Subhash, Media Manager: Ms. Chani Kumari, along with other members, will do a remarkable job to take the Napoli Knights Sports Club forward.
