Former Sri Lankan fast bowler Dhammika Prasad has been appointed as the fast bowling coach and assistant coach of the United States men’s national cricket team.

The United States team is also scheduled to participate in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which will be held between Sri Lanka and India from February 7 to March 8, 2026.

Prasad, an experienced right-arm fast bowler who represented Sri Lanka between 2006 and 2015, takes up the position with international experience gained in 25 Tests, 24 ODIs and one T20 International.

During his playing career, Prasad, known for his ability to strike quickly with the new ball, has played key roles in tournament victories, including Sri Lanka’s historic Test series victory in England in 2014.

Since retiring from international cricket in 2021, Prasad has developed roles as a bowling coach and consultant on the international stage.

His new position with US Cricket will see him work closely with the national team’s fast bowlers, helping them sharpen their skills and tactical awareness ahead of the Cricket World Cup.

The US men’s team heads into the 2026 T20 World Cup with growing confidence.

After co-hosting the 2024 tournament with the West Indies, the United States advanced to the Super 8 stage for the first time, automatically qualifying for the 2026 event after a Super Over victory over Pakistan.

In the 2026 World Cup, the United States has been placed in a competitive Group A alongside defending champions India, Pakistan, Namibia and the Netherlands.

Their match schedule begins with a high-profile match against India on February 7, 2026, a match that will hopefully test the developing American team against a powerhouse of the game.
