Sri Lanka’s veteran fast bowler Dhammika Prasad, the pace bowling coach of the 2026 T20 World Cup USA team and the head coach of Gujarati Diamonds in India, recently held a free training camp at the Hakmana Public Stadium in Matara, where he is said to have focused on the following points. They are as follows:
*The unique knowledge of a coach,
*Mindfulness, good handling, good order …….
*Controlling 210 children at a time and identifying the mistakes of those children,
*Not using mobile phones during training.
*All training sessions were held in the stadium and the intense sun did not interfere.
*Taking care of the children’s discipline,
*Recognizing their dedication and need through facial expressions and voice changes,
*Never leaving his colleague, veteran cricketer and veteran cricket coach Dinuk Hettiarachchi alone,
*Giving due respect and appreciation to all the participating coaches,
*Despite holding this training camp for free, the desire to teach the children something. (Using less of the prescribed breaks and spending more time in training than the time they should have stopped)
I saw the unique qualities of a veteran cricket coach.
At the end of that day, he received compliments from many parents who said that this was also a kind of charity.
It was also announced that Dhammika Prasad’s “DP Foundation” has set a goal of holding a free cricket training camp in one district every month for everyone who has given him the strength to conquer the world and to produce a talented cricketer like him for Sri Lanka. During that training session, 10 coaches will be evaluated.
