Brazil’s Laura Cardoso has entered the record books by becoming the first player to take nine wickets in a single innings in a men’s or women’s T20 cricket match.
Cardoso bowled against Lesotho, and her three overs were an extraordinary 9/4.
It was the best bowling performance in the history of T20 cricket.
The previous record for the best bowling performance was held by Bhutan’s Sonam Yeshe, who took eight wickets for seven runs in a men’s T20 match against Myanmar in 2025.
In a women’s T20 match, Cardoso surpassed Indonesia’s Rohmalia Rohmalia’s record of 7/0 against Mongolia in 2024.
Early in the match, Brazil had scored 202 runs thanks to impressive innings from Roberta Avery (48 off 35 balls) and Monique Machado (69* off 41 balls).
Cardoso’s incredible bowling began with a hat-trick in the second over.
She took four more wickets in the fourth over to take her tally to seven.
She took two more wickets in the sixth over to take her record of nine wickets in an innings.
The final wicket was taken by Marian Arter, and Lesotho were bowled out for just 13 runs in 6.2 overs, giving Brazil a massive 189-run victory.
