FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich arrived in Sri Lanka on a two-day official visit to attend the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Chess Championship as the Chief Guest.

The championship is scheduled to be held from today (16) to May 26 at Citrus Waskaduwa, and about 550 players representing 14 Commonwealth countries are participating.

Dvorkovich arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport from Moscow, Russia, at around 7.40 am yesterday morning on Aeroflot SU-288 flight.

He was received by Sri Lanka Chess Federation President Lakshman Wijesuriya and several other officials at the Gold Route Special Guests Lounge.
