The Western Province Badminton Association (WPBA) successfully concluded its Advanced Badminton Coaches’ Masterclass, held from 22 to 27 June 2026 at the Mercantile Badminton Trust Courts. The six-day programme saw 47 coaches successfully complete intensive training aimed at enhancing the standard of badminton coaching in Sri Lanka.
The Masterclass was conducted by Mr. Kim Young Man, one of the world’s most accomplished badminton coaches. A former Head Coach of the Japan National Badminton Team, former Head Coach of the Korea National Badminton Team, and former Head Coach of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Training Centre, Coach Kim shared decades of international coaching expertise with Sri Lanka’s coaching fraternity. The programme covered advanced coaching methodologies, tactical development, athlete preparation, and modern training techniques, equipping participants with world-class knowledge to develop future generations of badminton players.
The Certificate Awarding Ceremony was held at Olympic House, Colombo, with Mr. Jayasiri Silva, Honorary Consul General of Botswana in Sri Lanka and Director of APACS Sri Lanka, gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest. Joining him as the Guest of Honour was Ms. Patricia Alexander, Promotional Head – Asia, APACS. Among the distinguished invitees were Mr. Oliver Guruge, Mr. Rajpal Salgado, and Olympian Niluka Karunaratne, whose presence underscored the significance of the programme and its contribution to the future of Sri Lankan badminton.
In recognition of their successful completion of the programme, all 47 coaches were presented with a professional APACS badminton racket and an official APACS T-shirt, courtesy of APACS.
