The Hambantota district won the women’s championship in the beach volleyball event, while Gampaha won the men’s championship, starting the national level competitions of the 36th National Youth Sports Festival jointly organized by the National Youth Services Council, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Youth Clubs Federation.
In the women’s final of the tournament held at the Negombo Beach Park, the Hambantota players defeated the Kegalle team 2-0 (21/10, 21/11). The winning team included Sureka Dilshani and Nethmini Divyanjali.
In the men’s final, the Gampaha players defeated the Kalutara district 2-0 by scores of 21/8 and 21/13. Sandun Thushara and Melaka Heshan represented the Gampaha District team.
