The Sri Lankan Table Tennis contingent, which brought pride to the motherland by winning 3 Silver and 11 Bronze medals at the South Asian Youth Table Tennis Championship 2026 held recently in Shimla, India (April 08-11), met with the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Hon. Sunil Kumara Gamage, today (11th).
During the meeting held at the Ministry premises, the Minister engaged in a cordial discussion with the winning athletes, commending their achievements and extending his best wishes for their future sporting endeavors. The Minister also joined the team’s coaches and officials for a commemorative group photograph.
The exceptional achievements recorded by the Sri Lankan team are as follows:
Team Events:
Silver Medals: U-19 Boys Team (Captain Akain, Hareen, Mathila, Danuk), U-19 Girls Team (Captain Tamadi, Shamalsha, Lesanya, Sadinthi), and U-15 Boys Team (Captain Sanon, Yenul, Kenura, Onel).
Bronze Medals: U-15 Girls Team (Captain Chanuki, Muthuli, Hesanya, Sithma).
Singles and Doubles Events:
In the Singles category, Sanon Duljith, Chanuki Akshana, Muthuli Sahanya, Akain Bojith, and Shamalsha Dewmi secured Bronze medals. Additionally, 5 more Bronze medals were won across the Boys, Girls, and Mixed Doubles events.
The coaches for the tour were Chathura Dushan and W.A. Budhdhasiri, with G.M.C.
