M. Avishka Madonza (Bib No. 187) representing the Western Province secured a spectacular victory in the Men’s Cycling Championship at the 50th National Sports Festival – 2026.
Flagging off in front of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Madonza crossed the finish line with a timing of 3:56:26 to clinch the prestigious first place on the national podium.
Dominating the top spots for the Western Province, P.P.P.M.G. Silva (Bib No. 188) secured the second place, while H.M.S. Pinthu (Bib No. 141) representing the North Western Province finished third.
The race also featured high-intensity intermediate sprints, where Nadeesha Eshan of the Western Province claimed the First Sprint Winner title, and D.A. Suresh Tharanga of the Southern Province was adjudged the Second Sprint Winner.
With an outstanding overall performance by their riders, the Western Province successfully captured the Men’s Cycling Team Championship.
