
The Air Force Sportspersons Appreciation Ceremony organized by the Air Force Sports Council to recognize the achievements of the Sri Lanka Air Force sportspersons in national and international competitions during the year 2024/2025 was held today (26th March 2025) at the Sri Lanka Air Force Headquarters under the patronage of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe.
The women’s wrestling team that won both the 2024/2025 Defence Services Championships and the 2024 National Championships, the women’s volleyball team, the women’s boxing team that won the 2024 National Championships, the women’s judo team, the women’s cycling team in the 2025 Sri Lanka Air Force Cycle Ride, the teams and players that won the 2024/2025 Defence Services Championships, the women’s handball team, the men’s archery team, the women’s archery team, the women’s taekwondo team, the women’s weightlifting team, the men’s squash team, the men’s volleyball team, the women’s netball team, the women’s golf team and the Sri Lanka team that won the runner-up position in the 2024 Asian Netball Championship held in India, including Corporal Rashmi Perera, who brought pride to the Sri Lanka Air Force by playing brilliantly. The Commander of the Air Force presented cash prizes and trophies to 184 sportspersons.
The Commander of the Air Force also presented cash prizes and trophies to the coaches of the Wrestling Squad, Sergeant Wasantha Kumara, the Volleyball Women’s Team Coach, Cropral Nilanga Rukshan, the Boxing Squad Coach, Mr. Sampath Jayathilaka and the Judo Squad Coach, Mr. Palliyaguruge Sunil, who implemented strategic strategies and turned victories into triumphs and contributed to the Air Force’s sporting achievements.
