India has agreed to play an extra Twenty20 International (T20I) during its tour of Sri Lanka in August as part of its efforts to support relief and recovery efforts following Cyclone Ditva, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) chairman Shammi Silva said.

Commenting on the matter, Silva said the Indian national cricket team will also play additional T20Is when they tour Sri Lanka later this year for their ICC World Test Championship series.

He said the decision was taken as an extension of the ongoing cooperation with Sri Lanka following Cyclone Ditva, which caused extensive damage in several parts of the island.

The Sri Lanka Cricket President expressed his gratitude for India’s support, noting that the additional matches scheduled for August will help generate the necessary revenue and attention for relief and reconstruction efforts.

Cyclone Ditva affected hundreds of thousands of people across Sri Lanka, causing severe flooding and landslides and causing widespread damage to homes, infrastructure and livelihoods.

Sri Lanka Cricket has been involved in several programs aimed at supporting relief efforts, including exploring international stadiums and fundraising activities in collaboration with foreign cricket boards.

Shammi Silva also said that the proceeds from the upcoming Twenty20 International against Pakistan will be donated to flood relief efforts.
