Royal College and Visakha Vidyalaya showed their supremacy at the National Age Group Water Polo League Tournament, organized by the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union, held at the Air Force Swimming Pool Complex in Ratmalana. The two-day tournament saw exciting competition as Royal College arose as triple champions, clinching titles in the Under-19, Under-15, and Under-13 boys’ categories.
Visakha Vidyalaya also established their authority, winning both the Under-19 and Under-13 girls’ titles. Royal College’s performance was undeniably outstanding. They secured victories in all three age groups, establishing their supremacy in the boys’ division. The Under-19 team, in particular, stood out, overcoming a strong challenge from DS Senanayake College, who finished as runners-up, while Nalanda College claimed third place.
In the boys’ Under-15 category, Royal College once again showed their mettle, with Thurstan College finishing as runners-up and Nalanda College taking the third spot. The Under-13 division saw Royal continue their winning streak, with Nalanda College earning the silver medal and Thurstan College securing bronze.
On the girls’ side, Visakha Vidyalaya displayed their prowess, winning the commended Under-19 title. They also captured the Under-13 championship, adding to their impressive haul. However, in the Under-15 category, Bishop’s College managed to break Visakha’s dominance, fortifying the championship title. Despite this, Visakha Vidyalaya still managed to claim the silver medal in the Under-15 division.
Bishop’s College also had a strong showing in other age groups, winning silver in both the Under-19 and Under-13 girls’ categories. This balanced the competition between the two leading girls’ schools, with Visakha taking home two titles and Bishop’s College one.
The tournament was well-represented with nine schools participating. However, the non-attendance of traditional powerhouses S. Thomas’ College and Ladies’ College, due to their school vacation, was felt. Despite this, the competition remained intense, with the participating teams delivering outstanding performances over the two-day event.
