Savinka Weerasekara succeeded in the Men’s Open category, while Panchali Adhikari emerged victorious in the Women’s Open category at the Kandy All-Island Open Badminton Championship, organised by the Central Province Badminton Association, affiliated with Sri Lanka Badminton.
The national-ranking tournament, held at the Provincial Council Sports Complex in Rajawella, Digana saw Savinka defeating SanudaImal Ariyasinghe in straight sets (21-14, 21-15) in the men’s open final, while Panchali beat Sanadi Dahamsa de Silva with scores of 20-22, 21-12, and 21-14 to win the women’s open singles title.
In the Men’s Open Doubles, Alan Dharmasaputra and Marcello Vittorio beaten Tenuka Sathsara de Silva and Tarusha Madhubanu with scores of 21-10, 19-21, and 21-17 in the final.
Hasini Nusaka and Hasara Wijayaratne claimed the Women’s Open Doubles title by beating Nilasi Siyara Balasuriya and Jananuwani Amanda de Alwis with scores of 21-16 and 21-12.
The Mixed Doubles title was gained by Dharmasaputra and Panchali who triumphed over Marcello and Ranumi Suhasnie Manage with scores of 19-21, 24-22, and 21-12.
The Kandy All-Island Open Badminton Championship featured a vast selection of competitions spanning over different categories: Open, Junior, Senior, and Veterans, while a massive prize purse of 1.75 million rupees, along with certificates, trophies, and medals, were on offer for the podium winners.
