The Sri Lankan junior golfing double of Reshan Algama and Kaya Daluwatte ended in sixth position out of 28 teams representing 17 countries at the in recent times finished Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) Junior Championships 2024 in Manila, the Philippines.
The Sri Lankan team finished the tournament with a total score of 1-under par, an outstanding feat playing among the best in Asia and some top teams from Europe as well.
This commendable performance placed them in sixth position overall.
Algama maintained his composure throughout the championship, carding a gross score of 213 to finish in the sixth position in the individual event.
His performance was remarkable considering the high-calibre field he was competing against.
Daluwatte, who is probably the best junior player Sri Lanka has ever produced, also made a significant impression in the tournament.
The young golfer displayed her power on the greens; recording a 4-under-par performance and securing a top-five finish with a gross score of 216.
Both golfers’ top performances secured a berth for Sri Lanka at the next event in 2025.
Daluwatte and Algama were coached by Jehan De Saram and are dividends of the hard work put in by Sri Lanka Golf and its Junior Sub Committees.
