The ‘Commandant’s Cup Sailing Regatta – 2024’ organised for the fourth time by the Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA), Trincomalee began yesterday at the Commander Shanthi Bahar Memorial Sailing Club.

The three day event is at waters of Sandy Bay, Trincomalee. The event will showcase the strong friendship and sportsmanship among the participating nations, promising an exciting experience. It also presents an excellent opportunity to attract tourists to the country’s aquatic sports scene.

At the invitation of Commandant NMA, Commodore Rohan Joseph, the opening ceremony was enhanced by Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, as the chief guest.

The sailing regatta, held under the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, is attended by 22 officers under trainees from Naval Academies in China, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka and the competition is supported by the Yachting Association of Sri Lanka
