Sri Lankan women’s netball team missed out on qualifying for the Asian Cup finals due to an unexpected defeat. Also, due to this defeat, they missed out on qualifying for the 2027 Netball World Cup in Australia.
Only two teams from Asia qualify for the Netball World Cup. Those are the two teams that qualify for the Asian Cup finals.
Sri Lanka will play Singapore in the preliminary round of this year’s Asian Cup. Sri Lanka will lose that match too. But that was by a score of 62-51. But today, they will lose unexpectedly by a score of 82-54.
Sri Lanka has won the Asian Games 3 times (2009, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2022 and 2024). On all three occasions, Sri Lankan women have been defeated by Singapore. On the remaining four occasions, Sri Lankan women have been runners-up. On three occasions, Singapore has won the Asian Games. The last time Sri Lankan women lost was in the 2024 final, losing by 3 runs.
