A meeting between the new Cuban Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Her Excellency Patricia Lázara Pego Guerra, and the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mr. Sunil Kumara Gamage, took place today (23rd) at the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
During the meeting, the Ambassador stated that the Cuban Government would provide maximum support for the development of sports in Sri Lanka. She noted that despite facing international sanctions, Cuba has excelled globally in sports. She expressed Cuba’s willingness to share their expertise to help Sri Lanka achieve Olympic medal success.
The Ambassador further emphasized that by strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations, Cuba is ready to contribute to the future development of sports and youth affairs in Sri Lanka.
Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage mentioned that focusing on the long-standing ties between Cuba and Sri Lanka, he intends to explore joint projects that both countries can undertake together in the future.
The Secretary to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mr. Aruna Bandara, and the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Anti-Doping Agency, Mr. Laleesha Kahatapitiya, were also present at the occasion.
