The foundation stone for the indoor sports hall to be constructed at St. Xavier’s Boys’ College was laid yesterday (Oct. 03) by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sunil Kumara Gamage.
Director General of the Department of Sports Development, V. Premachandhiran, Wanni District Councilor, M. Jegatheeswaran, Mannar District Secretary, and the Principal of St. Xavier’s Boys’ College participated in the event.
Participating in the event, the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports said that the era in which the people were oppressed by dividing them on the basis of castes and religions due to the desires of politicians in the past has been ended by the present government.
The Minister pointed out that under the new government, which is not limited to words, the development of the Northern Province has already begun, and the Jaffna International Stadium and the swimming pool of the Mannar District Sports Complex, which will be handed over to the athletes today, are opportunities for those words to become a reality.
The Minister also said that although the districts of Jaffna and Mannar are kilometers apart, they are not far from human feelings. The Minister further emphasized that as long as the current government is in power, there will be no room for conflict or division among people due to religion or ethnicity in this country.
