
Officials from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports engaged in a discussion with the Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Training, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, at the Parliament Complex on August 21 to discuss the promotion of school sports by resolving the current issues related to school sports.
At this meeting, the attention of both parties was drawn to the need to build a relationship between the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Ministry of Education to resolve the existing issues related to school sports. Discussions were held on issues such as licensing issues in sports associations, minimizing the problems of sports coaches, and developing sports schools. The Prime Minister emphasized on providing equal opportunities for every student to participate in sports.
Pointing out the need to create a sports culture in schools based on the physical and mental health of students, away from the existing competition, the Prime Minister saw the need for the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Ministry of Education to meet regularly to discuss existing problems. Attention was also paid to making arrangements to apply for sports competitions through a computer database.
