Nitasha Kantha and Fasrin Mohamed Nawaz represented Sri Lanka in the Mixed Pairs event at the 16th South Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship in Thimphu, Bhutan.
Nitasha and Fasrin managed to win the Gold Medal in the Mixed Pairs category at this huge international competition, beating strong competitors from other countries.
But the value of this victory is much greater than an ordinary gold medal. The two have written a new history in the country’s sports by becoming the first Sri Lankan pair to win a gold medal in the Mixed Pairs event at an international championship officially sanctioned by the World Bodybuilding and Physical Fitness Federation (WBPF).
In a mixed doubles event in bodybuilding, the proportionality of body shapes, the rhythm displayed on stage and the strong understanding between the two are extremely important. In such an event, which has not received due attention in the Sri Lankan bodybuilding sector until now, the country winning a gold medal in an international WBPF level competition is a unique progress and a huge milestone for Sri Lankan bodybuilding.
