The 40th Rowing Nationals were organised by the Ameture Rowing Association of Sri Lanka (ARASL), at which almost 500-600 athletes took part. They represented 14 schools, 6 universities, the triforces (Sri Lanka Army, the Navy and the Air Force) and 3 rowing clubs.
Category winners
Sri Lanka Army emerged the men and women both categories by winning 5 gold medals in each men and women open catergories.
Intermediate Men’s category was won by Diyawanawa Rowing Academy , winning 2 gold medals.
Junior Boys’ category was con by the Asian International School, winning 5 gold medals.
The main highlight of the event was the achievement made by the Rowing Crew of Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo. They delivered a remarkable performance by emerging champions, not only in the Junior Girls’ category,but also in the Women’s Intermediate category, by winning 7 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze medals. They performed exceptionnaly well in Under 15 and Under 17 age groups and in the Intermediate category. This achievements reflects their remarkable dedication, discipline and dominance across multiple levels of competition
This is the first time in Sri Lanka Rowing history where a single junior girls crew became champions in dual categories at a National event. This landmark achievement stands as a testament to their excellence, teamwork and the strength of their rowing programme. The team led by Anusara Akmeemana (Captain ) and Thisali Welage(Vice Captain)
Gratitude
The Visakha Rowing crew extends its heartfelt gratitude to all institutions and individuals who were with them along this journey. Among the institutions that backed the Visakha crew are the Sri Lanka Army Rowing Club, the Sri Lanka Navy, Rowing Club the Air Force Rowing Club, KDU, DS Senanayake College, Wesley College and AIS.
