Deputy Sports Minister Sugath Thilakaratne, who was the chief guest at the 4th National Archery Championship, said that the national mission of creating a rich country in a beautiful country that can progress through sports has begun.

The championship, organized by the Sri Lanka Archery Association, was held for 03 days at the Umaguliya Stadium, Kolonnawa, and 311 athletes representing ten sports clubs participated in 29 events.

The Deputy Sports Minister Sugath Thilakaratne presented medals and certificates to the winners.

The Minister, who spoke at the event, said…

Politics will be completely removed from sports. Plans to take all sports to the Olympics will begin in the first week of January 2025. We cannot allow the country’s sports to stagnate. We are urgently resolving the issues in the sports clubs.

As a sportsman like you, I have heard such stories while sitting there. Let us turn those stories into reality. Let us prepare to begin the renaissance era of sports. We have the responsibility to take archery and all the sports in our country to international success. Let us make 2028 a year where we can keep our Olympic hopes alive. Let us come together to make the theme of a beautiful country, a rich country a reality through sports.

Mr. Nishantha Herath, President of the Sri Lanka Archery Association, and a group of others were present at this event.
