The Age Group World Major Marathon Championship will be held in Cape Town, South Africa on May 24. Sri Lankan Gamini Sugathadasa is scheduled to compete in the 55-59 age group. He is a notable figure in the 2026 Abbott World Marathon Majors, finishing sixth in the rankings of Tokyo, Boston and London. Gamini Sugathadasa is also scheduled to compete as the fourth fastest runner in the 55-59 age group in the Cape Town Marathon to be held on May 24.
Over 300 people in his age group will be participating in this competition. Only those who meet the qualifying time and have performed well in the Abbott World Marathon Majors in Tokyo, Boston and London this year can participate in this race. The Age Group World Major Marathon Championship is held every year. From 2027, the Cape Town Marathon in South Africa will also be a new member of the Abbott World Marathon Majors.
