Sri Lanka Athletics (SLA) has announced that the 2026 Junior National Athletics Championships, originally scheduled for April 2–5, will now be held from June 15–18, 2026.
The decision was made for two main reasons:
The original dates coincided with Good Friday (April 3) and Easter Sunday (April 5).
In line with SLA’s competition policy, Junior National Championships must be staged within the designated junior competition period in the annual calendar.
Meanwhile, a selection trial for the Asian U20 Athletics Championships will be held at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium, Diyagama on April 1–2, 2026.
The eligibility criteria will be announced within three days, with applications being invited from eligible athletes.
The Under-23 selection trials will be held as part of the senior national trials scheduled for the end of April.
The Sri Lanka Army further stated that any adjustments to the 2026 annual athletics calendar will be finalized after discussions with the coaches, and the date for this meeting will be announced soon.
