Sri Lankan junior track and field champion Tharushi Karunaratne has set an Asian best in the indoor 600m. Tharushi Karunaratne clocked 1:28.92 in the indoor 600m, the best Asian performance ever in the event. The previous record was set by Laura Hoffman of the Philippines with a time of 1:30.33.
Currently, neither the World Athletics nor the ATFS maintain an official record for the indoor 600m. However, Karunaratne’s time is currently recognized as the fastest time ever set by an Asian athlete.
With this victory, Tharushi now holds the Asian best time for both the outdoor and indoor 600m events.
